MRU is a composure of the initials of its founder, Marco Ruocco. However, it is also an acronym that stands for: "Meta Research Unit".

MRU develops concepts: it considers human-related processes that are enlived by the beat of technology. MRU conducts the core business of assisting the grand "work in progress" of Nature. Even if computing is an item in focus, the technology we most often consider is made of systems based on the behavior of humans operating in the environment.

We offer an overarching product: a conceptual framework explaining the world in terms of Meta, an organizing and driving logic, which in turn underpins the systemic components of human-environment-technology interactions. The framework is useful in understanding every facet of technology: the way it is best adopted and the way it induces natural change.

Exploring the foundations of Meta has been a challenging task that has taken many years to complete since the founding of MRU in 2006. Exploration comprised visualization, writing, software, teaching, and last but not least, travels. Each contribution explored a different facet of Meta. Results came out gradually, as insights were found at every unexpected turn. In the process the view on Meta has changed, evolving from a mysterious and fascinating logic struggling to be a relevant part of world processes, to a clearly framed reality that can be recalled as the expression of natural progress.

Now that the inner workings of Meta have been fully developed in detail as well as in context, MRU is turning its attention to researching the interactions between humans, environment and technologies. Business concerning Earth and Nature is at the core of MRU's "applied Meta" vision, and it is a natural opportunity for the growth of the project.
